The ACOD noise map

(page written by Robert Butera, PhD, PE)

PDK maintains 4 NMS (Noise Monitoring Stations) as part of its Noise and Operations Monitoring System. Data from PDK's Noise Reports. Here is the map with the NMS locations and measurements. A DNL is a weighted average of the sound intensity at the monitoring station over 24 hours, with a 10dB penalty for night flights.

Below is the airport noise zone map for Dekalb County's proposed airport compatibility overlay district (ACOD). The location of the NMS's have been added to the map. The four contours (60,65,70,75) represent "estimated" DNL levels for the purposes of classifying homeowner restrictions in the ACOD.

These measurements provide an assessment for asking the question "how valid is the proposed ACOD map?" The ACOD estimate column is an an estimate obtained by contour interpolation of what the noise measurements should be if the ACOD map is representative of current noise levels.
